Meno and Sand (2)
Skated to Pomp and Circumstance. Todd was shaky in warmup, but both hit nice triple toes. There was a very minor unison problem in their spin (Jenni changed over slightly before Todd, but unison in rotation was never lost), elements were done very well, probably hurt by the draw. They took 3 firsts, and the other 6 almost all had I&D in the lead by only the tiebreaker on the technical merit mark. Standing ovation.
Handy and Binnebose (4)
Skated to Candide. These 2 have been fantastic. High triple toes, good press lift.
Hartsell and Hartsell (5)
Skated to Lord of the Dance. He stepped out of the triple toe, which killed them. Their spins were off unison, and their press lift is relatively easy. Steve was really angry with himself, and it was sweet to watch Danielle try to comfort him in the kiss and cry. These 2 are really genuine, and they have great attitudes and excellent work ethics.
Scott ahd Dulebohn (10)
Skated to Riverdance. Before today, I was sure these 2 would be last. Their practices have been horrible! Philip skates so well, but Tiffany misses almost all of her triple toe and double axel attempts. Their elements were a little shaky, and they pulled off the triple toes with only a two-foot touch down (best one I've seen her do all day). There is a part of me that thinks he may have doubled his toe loop, but I am relatively sure he tripled.
Goldfogel and Schulz (12)
Danse Macabre. Coached by Irina Rodnina. Clean double axels, but the press lift almost came to a complete stop, and her free leg almost kicked him in the nose (I gasped).
Ina and Dungjen (1)
Kodo. Slight unison problem on their SBS spins and their footwork. Their great lift is probably what put them in first, but I think the starting order had a lot to do with it. Partial standing ovation (although I was firmly planted in my seat).
Grabow and Oberman (9)
The King and I. She fell on the double axel. I love these two, and they have great line, but they to get the technical merit together!
Moxley and Weiss (11)
They skated to Heartbreak Hotel. Only side-by-side double flips, and unison problems on the spins.
Stiegler and Stiegler (7)
Skated to Shostakovich's Celebration. They had a horrible warmup. Johnnie just couldn't land his double axel. While Moxley and Weiss were spinning, Johnnie and Tiffany went up into a back press lift. Thank God that Jeff Weiss saw Johnnie coming in time. However, they left this trouble on the warmup. Their spins were off, but they landed their double axels well. Tiffany looks a lot older than 13.
Barnhart and Bernhard (8)
Skated to the first part of Brasseur and Eisler's 1994 Olympic program. She fell on her double axel and they were way off on their spins, but the judges rewarded their quality. They have superb stretch and line, and they work with each other very well. If they get the jumps, look out.
Vlandis and Guzman (6)
They skated to a Paso Doble. The door was open, but they couldn't walk through. They both singled their SBS triple loops: Jered didn't even really look like he tried his. Their lift, their footwork, and their spiral sequence were all fantastic, and they skated with a lot of speed. I really thought they would overtake the Hartsells and possibly place even as high as third, but the judges slammed them for the missed SBS jumps. Jered had a horrible costume with heavy "things" (sorry, they were hard to describe) on his shoulders.
Ward and Cording (13)
I wanted them to do well so badly... she stepped out of the triple sal, their back press came down early (though they covered well), the spins were really off, and pair spin even had an error or two (he put his foot down once or twice).
Woodman and Peterson (14)
The Pink Panther. SBS double flips, but she fell first on one of their opening moves and then again, blowing the whole circular footwork sequence.
